Proofdrop setup guide

Add photo uploads to an existing Shopify contact form. Choose an app embed for automatic placement or an app block for manual placement.

Before you start

Open Proofdrop in Shopify admin. Enable photo uploads, choose your upload limits and allowed formats, then save your changes. Connect Google Drive if you want private storage; otherwise new uploads use Shopify Files.

Proofdrop needs an existing Shopify contact form. It does not create one. The Open theme editor button in the app opens your current theme with the Photo uploads embed selected. To use a different theme, go to Online Store → Themes and open that theme’s editor.

Option 1: App embed

Use this to insert the uploader automatically into matching contact forms. App embeds work with both older themes and Online Store 2.0 themes.

  1. Open the theme editor and select the page or template containing your contact form, such as Pages → Contact.
  2. Open App embeds and turn on Proofdrop’s Photo uploads. If the setup button already enabled it, leave it on.
  3. Select Photo uploads to adjust its appearance. To restrict it to certain pages, enter their paths in Only show on these pages, one per line, such as /pages/contact. Leave blank to allow it on every page with a matching contact form.
  4. Preview the uploader, then click Save. It appears before the form’s submit button by default.

To remove it, turn off Photo uploads under App embeds and click Save. To choose its position yourself, use an app block instead.

Option 2: App block

Use this to place the uploader yourself. This requires an Online Store 2.0 theme and a section that supports app blocks. If your contact section has no Apps option, use the app embed instead.

  1. Open the theme editor and select a page or template with an existing contact form.
  2. In the contact form section, click Add block → Apps → Photo upload block from Proofdrop.
  3. Drag the block to the position you want in the section. Select it to adjust its appearance and optionally restrict it with Only show on these pages.
  4. Preview the page and click Save. The block connects to the contact form in its section, or to the only contact form on the page.

To remove it, select Photo upload block, choose Remove block, and click Save. To move it later, drag it within the section and save again. You can leave the app embed off when using only app blocks. Blocks can be used on any supported template that has an existing contact form.

Customize the appearance

In the theme editor, select the embed or block to change colors, borders, corner radius, and Padding (Top, Bottom, Left, Right). Choose custom colors or inherit theme colors. Preview changes before saving.

Upload limits, allowed formats, storage, and contact form targeting are managed in the Proofdrop app. Styling changes are saved in the theme. Changes become visible to customers after saving on your published theme; draft themes can be tested before publishing.

Choose the contact form

The default Contact form selector under Theme setup in Proofdrop works with standard Shopify contact forms. If there are multiple forms and you want only one to accept photos, enter that form’s CSS selector, such as #ContactForm, and save. Ask your theme developer for the correct selector if you are unsure.

App embeds insert before the submit button by default. For manual placement, use an app block and position it in the theme editor.

Test your setup

  1. Save your app settings and theme changes.
  2. Open the actual storefront page outside the theme editor.
  3. Select a photo and submit a test contact message.
  4. Check that Shopify’s contact email includes a working photo link. For Google Drive, open it with the connected account or an account granted access.

Selecting a photo only prepares it; uploading starts when the customer submits the form. The theme editor displays a preview and does not upload photos.

If the uploader is missing, check that uploads are enabled in Proofdrop, the embed or block is active, the page restriction matches the current path, and the contact form selector matches your form. You can contact support for help.
