ThemeUp

Back up selected Shopify store data to your own device, then restore what you need from your saved archive.

Your store. Your backup.

ThemeUp creates a downloadable archive of the store areas you select. Keep it somewhere safe so you can recover supported data later. Backup and Restore are two tabs in the same app, with instructions and operation feedback alongside the controls.

Read the coverage report after each backup. A saved archive is a copy of the data available at that moment, not a guarantee that every Shopify setting or third-party app can be recovered.

Create a backup

  1. Open ThemeUp in Shopify admin and choose Backup.
  2. Select the areas you want to include. Your plan determines which areas are available.
  3. Optionally encrypt the archive with a unique password of at least 12 characters. Save the password separately.
  4. Click Back up now and keep the tab and your computer awake while the archive is prepared.
  5. Save the download and open its report to check what was included, skipped or unavailable.

For the full walkthrough, see the backup and restore guide.

Restore from your archive

  1. Choose Restore and upload your ThemeUp backup: .tar, .tar.enc or .enc.
  2. For an encrypted archive, enter its original password and click Apply.
  3. Check the connected destination store, select what to recover and review the preparation steps.
  4. Click Restore and keep the page open. When it finishes, review the report and check the recovered data in Shopify.

Complete, Partial and Failed describe the operation result. A partial result means some items need attention; open the report for details rather than assuming everything was recovered.

Theme recovery

Restore a backed-up theme as a new unpublished copy, including its saved settings. Review and preview it in Online Store → Themes before publishing it yourself. You can also restore saved JSON customizations into a selected existing theme; this overwrites the corresponding settings, templates and section groups.

Applying customizations to the published theme changes your live storefront. Theme recovery is for backups of themes you are entitled to use. ThemeUp does not supply or distribute new themes.

Know what can be recovered

Coverage depends on Shopify API access, the permissions granted by the store, your plan and the data present in the archive. Shopify restricts some account settings, payment credentials and data owned by other apps. Follow any preparation instructions shown before restoring.

Orders are recovered as historical records; payments cannot be replayed. Older order history is limited by the order access available to the app. Some store and homepage preferences require manual changes. Translation recovery depends on the original content and store permissions.

Older archives cannot gain fields they never contained. Make a fresh backup when newly available permissions or data need to be included.

Your files and your data

The current release prepares and reads archives in your browser working session. We do not keep a hosted copy of your backup or a saved backup and restore history. Reloading or closing the page clears its working session; files you downloaded remain on your device.

There are no scheduled backups or automatic cloud syncing in this release. Google Drive is not currently offered as a backup destination. Keep your own copies and protect them, especially when they contain customer or order information.

Archive encryption is optional. Aoloha cannot recover or reset an archive password. See ThemeUp data handling in our privacy policy.

Plans and trials

Free: themes and customizations, products and collections, and customers.

Standard — $16.99 USD/month: Free plus files, blog posts, discounts and orders.

Premium — $19.99 USD/month: all supported areas, including pages and navigation, markets, shipping, custom data, store settings and translations.

Both paid plans offer a 7-day free trial. Shopify shows the applicable offer and handles subscription approval and billing. Open Manage plan in ThemeUp to view or change your subscription. Access to an area does not remove Shopify API or permission limits.
