ThemeUp backup and restore guide
Create an archive, keep it safe, and review your recovery before relying on it.
Before you start
Open ThemeUp in the Shopify store you want to back up or restore. Confirm your subscription under Manage plan if you need paid areas. Have enough free space on your computer, keep the tab open and prevent the device from sleeping during the operation.
ThemeUp works with its own backup archives. A standalone Shopify theme ZIP is not a ThemeUp store backup.
Download a backup
- Select the Backup tab and choose the store areas you need.
- If you choose encryption, enter and confirm a password of at least 12 characters. Store it separately from the archive.
- Click Back up now. Watch the status in the right sidebar while the archive is prepared.
- Save the downloaded file. Open the backup report and review any missing or partial coverage.
Keep more than one dated copy in a safe place. ThemeUp does not retain the archive for you or automatically repeat the backup.
Upload and review a backup
- Select Restore. Drag your ThemeUp archive into Choose backup archive or select it from your device.
- If it is encrypted, enter the original archive password and click Apply.
- Choose the available data you want to restore and check the connected destination.
- Read the preparation steps and any warnings before starting.
Your upload is available only while the page remains open. If you reload, upload the archive again.
Choose theme recovery options
Restore theme file creates an unpublished copy of the complete backed-up theme. Review it in Online Store → Themes after recovery.
Restore theme customizations recovers saved settings, JSON templates and section groups. When using an existing destination theme, these values are overwritten. Review the selected destination carefully, especially if it is published.
Run the restore
- Complete any preparation required for the selected data.
- Click Restore and leave the page open until it finishes.
- Read the result in the right sidebar and open the restore report.
- Check the recovered data in Shopify. Preview restored themes before deciding whether to publish.
Restore actions can change store data. Review the destination and selections before confirming.
Understand the result
Complete: the selected operation finished without reported recovery gaps. Check the report and the resulting data.
Partial: some data was processed, but other items need attention. Review each affected area and its next steps.
Failed: the operation could not finish. Read the error before retrying; do not assume that no changes were made.
Elapsed time and activity updates show that work is running. ThemeUp does not display an estimated percentage when the total work cannot be measured reliably.
If something needs attention
Check that the archive contains the data you selected, the connected store has the required permissions and your plan includes that area. Missing original content can prevent dependent items such as translations from being recovered.
If an encrypted archive will not unlock, check its original password. Aoloha cannot reset it. If the page was closed, start a new working session using your saved archive.
